The numbers behind trades admin, measured, not guessed.
Most of what gets said about tradie software is vibes and vendor copy. I run the businesses and I run the audit tool, so I can put actual numbers on it. This is the index of everything I have measured, with the raw data attached so you can argue with it.
Why this exists
An affiliate site can tell you the eight products everyone already knows. It cannot tell you what actually happens inside owner-operated trade businesses, because the people writing it have never run one. I have two field-service businesses and an audit tool that has now scored a real corpus of Victorian trades websites. So instead of another listicle, here is the primary data, published with its methodology and its sample size, and downloadable so you do not have to take my word for any of it.
The State of Trades Admin dataset
The flagship: website-detected numbers from an outbound-sourced sample of Victorian trades and service business websites. Booking paths, quote forms, analytics, on-site reviews, email security, visible job-management software. Currently n = 49, refreshed as at July 2026, and it grows every time the outbound audit pipeline runs.
- The state of trades admin, 2026: the field report plus the first hard numbers (n = 49), with a downloadable CSV and JSON.
- I checked 48 Victorian trades websites: the scored cut of the same corpus, and the three leaks that kept repeating.
- Why the first tradie to respond usually wins the job: the speed-to-lead research, translated for a business that answers the phone from a ladder.
How the data is made
Every figure in the dataset is detected from the public website by the same audit tooling that powers the free Tech Leak Check. The sample is businesses I sourced for outreach, not a random draw, so it is honest about being "what the audit finds in the wild", not a census. Where a claim cannot be measured from a website, such as how fast a business quotes or whether the owner can state margin mid-job, it stays out of the numbers until there is a real way to measure it. The counts are regenerated from the source of record, never hand-typed, so the page, the download and the schema always agree.
