Tradify vs ServiceTitan: a ute and a road train on the same shortlist.
These two barely belong in the same sentence, yet they end up on the same search because both say the word software. I run field-service businesses on this class of tool and I build the systems that sit around it. I am not a partner or reseller of either, so I can tell you plainly that this is not really a comparison; it is a sizing question wearing a comparison's clothes.
The short answer
These two are not the same category. Tradify is a job app a small trade team signs up for on a Tuesday afternoon and runs the same week. ServiceTitan is a US-built enterprise operations platform for contractors with dozens of trucks, dispatchers and a call-centre team. If you are shopping this exact pairing, you almost certainly want neither extreme.
Under about 10 staff: Tradify (or a peer job app), and do not look at ServiceTitan again until you have an office full of people whose job is to run a platform. Twenty-plus technicians with dispatchers, a booking team and a marketing spend measured weekly: ServiceTitan is a serious option, evaluated seriously and negotiated hard. Almost everyone in the middle is being handed the wrong two choices.
What Tradify actually is
- A job app for small teams: quote it, schedule it, do the job, invoice it, chase it. The learning curve is an afternoon.
- Per-user pricing that is easy to reason about as you add a hand or two, and even-handed across Apple and Android.
- Deliberately light. Little to configure, which is exactly why owner-operated shops adopt it and exactly where it stops.
What ServiceTitan actually is
- An operations platform for large residential and commercial contractors: call booking tied to marketing spend, dispatch boards, pricebooks, technician scorecards, financing at the kitchen table.
- A product where the software is the smaller half of what you buy; the operating model, an office of people running it daily, is the bigger half.
- Quote-based pricing and real implementation projects. If the sales process involves a discovery call and a proposal, the product is not aimed at a five-person outfit.
There is a fuller take on that platform on the ServiceTitan for Aussie tradies page, including why most Australian shops should not sign the commitment.
Why most Aussie shops want neither extreme
The reason this pairing gets searched at all is that an owner has outgrown the simple end and assumes the only step up is the enterprise end. It rarely is. Most shops reaching for ServiceTitan are chasing three or four specific things they saw in a demo, not the whole platform:
- Calls that book themselves: a booking front door on your own website, not a call centre.
- Quotes that go out fast and look sharp: structured quoting with proper intake and follow-up.
- Margin the owner can see live: a job profit dashboard that answers "are we still making money on this one" mid-job.
You do not size up from a ute to a road train because the ute's tray is full. You get a bigger ute, or a trailer for the one thing that does not fit.
Side by side
| Question | Tradify | ServiceTitan |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Small teams, service and small project work | Large contractors with an office and a fleet |
| Time to running | An afternoon | An implementation project, measured in weeks |
| What you're really buying | Software | Software plus an operating model to run it |
| Pricing shape | Per user, published (check current pricing on their site) | Quote-based, enterprise agreements (ask hard questions) |
| Sweet spot | 2 to ~10 staff | Roughly 20+ techs with dispatch and marketing teams |
No dollar figures on purpose: both change pricing, and ServiceTitan's is quote-based anyway. The shape of the pricing tells you most of what you need to know about who each is for. My own builds start from $1,500 fixed.
What I'd actually do
If you are honestly under about 10 staff, keep a simple job app you will actually use and put your energy into the two or three gaps it leaves. Bolt the missing pieces around it: a website that books jobs while you sleep, structured quote intake, a live margin view. Standalone builds from $1,500 fixed, or an Ops Care plan from $750 a month where the first system ships inside 60 days.
If those two or three gaps are the whole story, there is a door past even the bolt-on: I can build the lean version outright, on software I own and licence to you, instead of you signing an enterprise contract to use a fifth of it. The reasoning is in build versus buy, and the same over-buying pattern shows up right across the trade in the State of Trades Admin 2026 data.
Genuinely at the scale where an enterprise platform earns its cost? Then evaluate it deliberately, not in a panic. The 30-minute Tech Leak Audit is the honest version of the enterprise discovery call: I will tell you whether you need a platform, a bolt-on, or nothing at all. If you run an electrical service crew, that is the conversation worth having first, and the gaps I keep finding are laid out on the gaps around your job app.
Tradify vs ServiceTitan: the questions behind the search.
Is ServiceTitan overkill for a small Australian trade business?
For most, yes. ServiceTitan is a US-built enterprise operations platform for large residential and commercial contractors with dozens of trucks, dispatchers and a call-centre team. Under about ten staff you almost certainly want a simple job app plus a couple of bolt-ons, not an enterprise platform and the office it needs to run.
How big do you need to be for ServiceTitan to make sense?
Roughly twenty-plus technicians with dispatchers, a booking team and a marketing spend measured weekly. The software is the smaller half of what you buy; the bigger half is the operating model, an office of people running it daily. If you do not have that office, the platform sits half-used, which is worse than a simple tool used fully.
Is ServiceTitan even built for the Australian market?
It is US-built and priced, aimed at the American contractor model of call booking tied to marketing spend and financing at the kitchen table. Some of that translates here and some does not. There is a fuller take on the ServiceTitan for Aussie tradies page, including why most Australian shops should not sign the commitment.
I have outgrown Tradify but ServiceTitan looks huge. What is in between?
Almost everyone in the middle is being handed the wrong two choices. Most shops reaching for ServiceTitan are chasing three or four things they saw in a demo: calls that book themselves, quotes that go out fast, and margin the owner can see live. Those are bolt-ons around a simple job app, not a reason to buy an enterprise platform.
Can you build those three things instead of buying a platform?
For the right shop, yes. If the honest list is a booking front door, structured quoting and a live margin view, that is a lean custom build on software I own and licence to you, not an enterprise contract with an implementation project attached. It is fit-gated, not my default pitch, but it is a fraction of the cost and you use all of it.
Do you resell Tradify or ServiceTitan?
No. I am not a partner, reseller or affiliate of either, so I have no reason to push you up the price ladder. I run this class of software and build the systems around it, which is why I can tell you plainly that this pairing is a sizing question wearing a comparison’s clothes.
